HAPPY ENDINGS

"RAMSEY"
This picture is of Ramsey (renamed from Ramses)& his 85 year old grandmom-in-law !! He's quite a handsome young dog now, but he sure didn't look like this last year. We took Ramsey under our wing 10 months ago as a foster dog that had been rescued off the streets. He was either abandoned with mange, or he may have picked it up in his travels. His owner never looked for him and nobody at the humane society would adopt him because he looked so bad, so he was schedualed to be put down. It was then that The Safe Haven stepped in and rescued him - and we took him as a foster dog. Ramsey stayed "quarantined" in our home in the country and didn't know what to do with all the free-range room to run and play (6 acres completely fenced). He didn't know how to go up and down steps, how to get in and out of cars, or what to make of the televison set. When called, he'd come to us "cowering". At first, he seemed to fear and turn away when my husband was putting his belt on. Loving reassurances took care of that fear. Now he loves his walks in the woods and he's even trying to swim in our pond! My husband worked on bringing out every Rottweiler's hidden gift to "talk", so now when Ramsey sees my husband coming, he stops, throws his head back and HOWLS with joy! Over the several months it took for him to regain his health, peace of mind, and hair from the mange, Ramsey found a spot in our hearts. He's remained there ever since. Loved by everybody who meets him, even my mother-in-law (a total "cat person") can't resist him. I hope everyone who sees this picture will know that adopting a Rottweiler will give these wonderful animals a second chance in life -- indeed, to have a far better life in most cases!
Thank-you for rescuing Ramsey! Judy & Dave Kozlouski

"JACKSON"
I couldn't have gotten a better dog if I had special ordered one - Jackson has it all - a wonderful personality, good manners, and a desire to make friends with everyone and everything he meets. It didn't take him long to go into Barataria's (my male llama's) paddock and say hello. Now the two are best buddies and Jackson visits with Barataria a few times a day. Jackson loves to ride around in the farm "gator" - he'll even sit in the driver's seat waiting for someone to take him for a ride. (My other dogs won't even come near it). Jackson is good with people of all ages, but children are his favorite! He follows them around and gently asks for attention (who could refuse a face like his?) His silliest trait is getting into the bathtub after someone has showered. I've never known a Rottie to enjoy/like water as much as he does, not even Argos or Jessie my female Rotties. I'm grateful that he was able to join my family - he's one of a kind and I love him! Jackson is such a treasure to be "owned by" - he loves to cuddle and sit by me - He's my new shadow since he is rarely more than 5 feet from me if me are in the house. Thanks to Sue for being such a good foster mom!

Good luck and keep up the good work!! Sue Pickering

"LEXI"
We adopted Lexie on June 5, 1998 after the death of our rottie, Tonka -- a "rottieless" house just isn't a home! She immediately loved our cat, Whiski and old boy, Kimba (a shephard-retreiver mix). Both have since joined Tonka at the Bridge and Kimba's passing was especially difficult for Lexie. From the moment we met her, Lexie was the most loving and affectionate dog we had ever had. Unfortunately, she only loved my husband and me. She slowly began to trust and love others -- my mom, our son and daughter-in-law, but very few people were admitted to her circle of love. After three plus years of unbounded affection from the folks in the "inner circle", she has decided that most visitors are okay and has learned to trust our judgement. She doesn't care to have strangers touch her, but she doesn't bark and posture like she used to do. Given that her first three years were not happy ones, that she trusts anyone is a miracle. She loves her daily walks (3+ miles) and dominating and chasing her new "brother", Zach (an Austrailian shephard mix shelter dog). She is a marvelous watchdog and does well with the grandkids. Mostly, she loves snuggling and curling up at night by my husband's recliner for an evening's worth of strokes. She has been a marvelous addition to our family and we love her dearly. Our son and daughter-in-law also adopted a rottie, Otto, from The Safe Haven in July of 2000. Otto is quite a big guy -- 130 pounds, but about as laid back as any dog I have ever known. He loves chasing squirrels and birds and the tennis ball. He also loves chasing the family's four cats, but they've managed to work out an acceptable arrangement for all involved. Otto is doing quite well, and as is true for most rotties, has managed to carve out a special spot in his owner's hearts. Thanks for all of the great work you do in rescuing and caring for this marvelous breed of dog.
Warm regards, Sharon Kimmell - Silver Lake, OH
"SAM"
Hi! I wanted to let you all know that Sam is doing great. She has been on the BARF (Bones And Raw Food) diet and has a girlish figure again. Sam goes on 1-1.5 mile walks with her 2 brothers about 5 times a week and seems to enjoy it very much. She's such a sweetie pie, and altho she can't get up on the couch, Sam is a real couch potato. Her temperament is so even and laid back, but don't be deceived, she's a rottie through and through. Sam is alert, protective, and yet very tolerant. Although not currently raised with kids, she loves being petted by them. I am considering beginning her in a local TDI program as I think she would enjoy the attention as much as the nursing home residents. Sam has proven to be such a great addition to my family, I would encourage others who are considering a pet to think about adopting a rescue rottie. They've seen so much in their short lives and are so appreciative of being loved, they give it back ten-fold. Thanks for all the work you do for these rotties!

"YETTA"
. After losing a longtime friend and companion to cancer and despite having other pets, my family still felt a huge void in our lives. We missed having a big loving boob to snuggle with at night and thunder across the kitchen floor like a bull in a china shop. Most people just didn't understand when I said the house seems so empty. How could it be with other dogs, cats and a miniature zoo? But it was. We were a Rottweilerless house. It was a hard decision to make in deciding to get another Rottweiler. Our "Danger" was so very special to us that we at first were not sure we could do another Rottweiler justice. But in our hearts we came to the realization that Danger would want us to go on with life. Still loving her and enjoying great memories, but opening our hearts to love another in a different yet special way. We felt she would want us to help another dog and make their life as special as her was. By knowing her family was loved and safe we could let her wait in peace at the bridge until that day when we meet again. In our hopes of finding another special friend we began to search the internet for rescue groups in Michigan. I scanned the pages looking at all the adorable faces and reading their stories. A box of Kleenex was always nearby as I saw so many that needed special families for their forever homes. Unfortunately I could only help one with a loving home, but I wanted to help so many more to know love. After seeing a dog I was interested in I contacted the wonderful people with Safe Haven. I submitted an application and made arrangements to go visit the dogs. My hopes were high that I would be coming home with someone to snuggle with in bed, someone to thunder across the kitchen floor and a new heart to love. Upon arrival at Safe Haven I was amazed at the number of wonderful dogs needing homes. Such sweet faces and loving personalities all wanting to be loved in a forever home. I knew in my heart I needed a very very special dog and I knew that when I saw it I would know. As I looked at dogs I wondered if I was really ready. Grief was still strong in my heart and I wondered if I made the right choice to get a dog this soon. I wondered that until I saw Yetta. Yetta was a big happy goofy dog. She wanted to play with everyone and everything. As a sizeable youngster with a good deal of size and weight behind her, she was a bull in a china shop. Just what I had hoped for! As we introduced her to my other dogs she reminded me of the cartoon character that looks like a big Yeti and finds Bugs Bunny to keep as a pet. " I want to hug him and squeeze him and keep him for my very own and call him George" the character repeats as he strokes the rabbit's head. Yetta was doing the same thing... she loved everyone and everything and wanted to smother them all with her affection. Of course the other dog's were not thrilled at this idea but I knew we could work it out. That fateful day was the start of a wonderful relationship. Yetta has continued to give her warmth and love to all those she meets everyone that crosses her path gets called George and receives a warm slurp, hug and squeeze. She sleeps in bed with me, all four of her legs up in the air and snoring. Her vigilance at the door makes sure never forget that she likes to ride in the car and that she has made fast friends with the folks manning the local fast food drive through windows. She has filled my life and home more than words can ever say. Thank you for giving me such a special gift.
Sincerely, Sheila Bromwell

"ILSA"
Ilsa made the journey to Northern Michigan from The Safe Haven on August 12, 2000. I have had the pleasure of watching her emerge from the somewhat shy eighteen month old, into an energetic, enthusiastic youngster that loves to play, and just be close to her "adoptive parent". Her enthusiasm and playful nature have inspired the "older" rottweiler male in the household to play and spend more time awake, rather that sleeping the day away. While only a young adult, she has a maturity and sensitivity that make her appear older than she truly is. Although, she has been home for only two months, she has adjusted well, and has brought a great deal of pleasure to this household. My sincere thanks to Rottweiler Hope, for the wonderful service they are providing to a wonderful breed of animal
Sincerely, Nancy Smith

"ZEKE"
Zeke, (formerly Jasper, one of Diamond's Gems) is a very happy and playful guy. He loves to run and play with his pitbull brother Zeus, with his most favorite activity being to play tug of war. He loves everyone he meets and is always ready to play ball with them. We want to say Thank-You to The Safe Haven for all the hard work and devotion they provide to helping homeless rottweilers, and for allowing us the chance to provide a home for one of their rescues.

"JAZZY"
My wife and I would like to thank Rottweiler Hope for their help and dedication for giving these Rottweilers a second chance in life. We also want to thank them for giving us a chance to provide one of their rescued dogs a loving home. This is Jazzy. As you can see by her pictures she's a ham for the Camera, and likes to cuddle on cold nights in front of the fire with her stuffed toys and blanket. She also likes it if one of her parents can join her too! Her favorite toy of all is a tennis ball. You give her one and she will play with it and chase it around all night. This is our first rottie and we can't begin to tell you how much of a joy it is to have one. They are a very loving and people oriented breed. It would seem that her only objective in life is to be by our sides at all times. Jazzy is very smart and knows basic obedience. She likes to go for walks by the lake and car rides to see friends and family. Jazzy says thank you for all your help that you gave her during her stay with you and in finding her a new home with loving parents. She is happy and spoiled and we are doing our best to keep her that way!
Thanks so much, Keith & Angie Jennings

"MYA"
Hello there everyone!! This is Mya (aka, Emerald, one of Diamond's Gems)! I wanted to write you all to let you know how I am doing in my forever home with my "Mommy" & "Daddy". They have been so happy since I came into their lives- I know this because they tell me all the time. I think they are really special too! I just finished celebrating the holidays and we had my one year birthday party. I got lots of presents for my birthday on December 17th, and Santa was very good to me for Christmas!! My Mommy & Daddy spoil me, and they get lots of help from my "Grandpa", who is always giving me lots of treats and love. My parents always tell everyone what a sweet and gentle girl I am because I love to make new friends. I always love to play, especially if I see any shadows that I can pounce on! I love playing in the snow and I even have a "boyfriend" next door. Mom & Dad bought me my own special bed with my name embroidered on it. It is very pretty, but they learned pretty quickly that I really prefer to sleep in their bed at night!! Luckily, I am pretty petite, so we all fit nice and comfy- at least from my perspective!! I hope that my mom, Diamond, and my brothers and sisters, as well as my foster families at the rescue are all doing well. I am sending some pictures for you all to see. We all wanted to say thanks to you at the rescue, for bringing us together. Without you, we wouldn't have each other! Thanks and love to you all.
Love, Mya (who's loved & owned by Scott & Tricia Losey)

"BALDER"
"Jade" aka "Balder" is doing wonderful. He is overcoming his fearfulness and is even beginning to trust new people. We're still working on socializing and basic obediance. Obediance for Balder is going great, and he will be allowed into difficult dog class for people shy dogs after the first of the year. We have one more private session and probably one day when he will spend the entire day with the trainer without us, then he can start group classes. I know he's up to it! He definitelty is head hand shy, but we are getting past that. Thank you all again for saving "my boy"and allowing us to adopt him. He is such a wonderful addition to our family and he and his sister Sage get along wonderful!
Thank you,Michelle Kelly

"JADE"
My husband and I adopted our girl rottie Jade from The Safe Haven almost 2 years ago. Originally I had wanted one of Diamonds pups, but all the girls had been spoken for. I had almost given up when I was contacted by Jan, and she told me she had just received 2 more girls so we made the trip out to see them...we chose Jade because she seemed to gravitate towards us, was extremely and would come right up to us and nuzzle in my lap, while her sister was causing minor havoc in the kitchen..:) Her sister turned out to be Cassie, who is also on the Happy Endings page, and was adopted by her foster mom. We took Jade home, and let me tell you, she was a handful! It was rough getting through the puppy stages, but she is a beautiful girl now, very sweet, loves to play, and loves all people. Jade sleeps with us in the bed, of course, and most of the time, she listens very well. She has the most beautiful face...those eyes, they get me every time..:) She is doing very well, and I don't know what I would do without her...I love her very much...and she is very happy....so thank you Safe Haven for leading me to her, she is very loved ...I thank you, and Jade thanks you too...:)

"MORGAN"
Last Christmas (1999) I received a gift from a very dear friend of mine. It was a Christmas ornament with the head of a Rottweiler and angel wings on it. I thought it was a charming gift, hung it up by my front door and thought little more of it. About six months later I started looking on-line for a new dog. I had two very elderly dogs that were fading fast and wanted to see what options were available. I knew if I went to the local animal shelter I would get depressed and want to take them all home with me. I came upon the Safe Haven web site and was immediately interested. Shortly there in after one of my dogs collapsed and had to be put down. So I filled out the application for a Rottie and my real story began. I was so thrilled when Jan called to tell me my application had been approved. She wanted to know if I had a particular dog in mind and I told her I was open for suggestions. We talked about my other old dog Rex at age 16 and my young cat Bel at just a year. The suggestion was a girl named Morgan. We made a plan to meet in two weeks when I would be on a business trip in Lansing. I called her the next day and asked if I could come that day instead. Sue made arrangements to meet me and it was the beginning of a wonderful adventure. Morgan has been an absolute joy since day one! She loves to ride in the car, and has socialized beautifully with Rex and Bel. She loves everyone and everyone loves her. My father, who had previously announced that if I ever got a Rottweiler he would never pet sit for me again, comes to see her almost daily. He thinks she's an exceptional dog. I would like to claim it's the individual dog, but I really think it's just the breed. I only wish I had room for more dogs. I would recommend that if you have the room and the love of dogs that you think about including one of these beauties into your family. I can never begin to express the love that the Rottie has brought into my life!
Sincerely, Margaret McDonald

"GRETCHEN"
We were so happy to have adopted Gretchen, a very sweet & loving 9 month old from The Safe Haven. Gretchen has settled in nicely and is doing wonderful with all the children, especially the twins. Oskar, our dashund is still trying to figure out what to do with her as all she wants to do is play! He let Gretchen know right off this was HIS house and she would go by HIS rules! They are so cute together. She is doing wonderful with learning manners and I can't help but wonder if someone out there is missing her as she learns so quick and will not lay on the bed, but beside it. Our son Jesse will be taking her to classes and hopefully next year he can enter her in obedience for 4-H at the local fair. Noah, another son, and Gretchen are best pals, they do everything together, including watching TV. I still think about what he said on the way home from adopting Gretchen, " I just don't understand why people would throw away a nice dog Mom!" I never expected him to be so happy about getting a dog but is and so is the whole family....she had stolen our hearts! Gretchen is so sweet and that is a good testament to the love and care they get from Jan. If not for The Safe Haven taking in and caring for Gretchen, we would not have this wonderful, loving, cuddly and affectionate rottie in our home. Thanks again for letting us adopt Gretchen and best wishes for the future!

"SAMSON"
Hi! My name is Samson, (I used to be named Mason)My new family and I would like to thank everyone at Rottweiler Hope for being there so I could find a happy home. I like playing with my new "sister" Delilah. We have a great time together. Mom & Dad sent this picture along so you could see what a great looking guy I really am and how happy I am in my new home. "I'm here to stay!" is what my new "Mom and Dad" say, and I believe them. I wish all adoptees could get as lucky as me.

Samson is loved by Nancy Tanner & James Castle

"ROSIE"
As Rosie (formerly Ruby, one of Diamond's Gems) sits at my feet chewing yet another bone, I wanted to send you a note & picture. As you can see from the photos, she is doing great. She loves the kids and enjoys playing with them in the yard. She plays catch, and usually brings the ball back, as well as chase. She is a little rough at "tag" as she tends to knock the kids over when she is "it". Zac likes to share is food with her, so she especially loves him. She is fond of popsicles, ice cream and anything else he may be eating. She sleeps in our room with us, under the bed, not on it, although she will sleep with the children as you can see. She is shy around strangers, but she warms up quickly. We are thankful that we have her, life would not be the same without her!!

Keep up the good work! Tracy Lloyd & Family

"MARKUS"
After moving into a new home with lots more room to play, I wanted to send a note to let you know how that Marcus is doing very well. We had a great summer up north. I went up to the U of M's Biostation near Pellston, but, this year, I lived off station because they don't allow dogs. I got a cabin on ~3 acres and my neighbors let me run the dogs on their fields and 2-tracks. I also took them to Sturgeon Bay for walks on the beach. Unfortunately, neither are swimmers, although Duncan seems to enjoy venturing into the water to wade. Duncan, Markus's little brother, had hip surgery in late January and was confined until early May.... he was mush at the beginning of the summer but he's looking great now and he's even doing some running! Markus continues to play well with Duncan. He asserts his "alphaness" frequently (even though Duncan has yet to contest the status quo), but the periods of disagreement are short and few. Maybe this is because Duncan is much taller and weighes about 30# more than Markus. They're close buddies as seen by their habit of sleeping next to each other or in the same room almost all the time. I've taught Markus "over" to jump and recently am teaching "tire" so he'll go through and it's gotten raised several times and he's always successful and very graceful. I need to get Markus to run full out more often, as it makes him very happy and helps him keep fit.

Best Regards.........Dr. Mary Anne Carroll

"ELI & LEXI"

This is one of our favorite pictures of Eli & Lexi. We used it for our Christmas card last year. It is hard to believe that Eli has been with us 3 1/2 years already and Lexi will be here 3 years in Dec. We are very happy with both of them, they are just wonderful! We enjoy reading about your work with so many wonderful rottweilers.

Best Wishes to all, Saul & Ursula Balagura

"ROCKET"
We guestimate Rocket to be about 9-10 months of age. She gets along very well with everyone. Children and car rides are her weaknesses. She has fit into our family as if she has been here her whole life. She has done well on her obedience and loves to go for walks. We have taken her camping with us, and she loved the beach, although she is not real crazy about the water itself. :) Although not housebroken when she arrived, this has gone quite well and she has not had an accident now in over a month. The pictures that are shown here are as follows: Top Left: Roger and Rocket at the pier in Ludington. Roger has Muscular Dystrophy and is in a wheelchair. Rocket seemed to know that he couldn't reach out to pet her, so she climbed in his lap to make it easier for him. Top Middle: Rocket with our Daughter, Jennifer hanging out on the couch together. Top Right: Rocket with our Corgi, Scooter. Middle Left: Rocket's favorite spot. The (her?) couch :) Middle Right: Rocket with our son Tyler. She has an afinity for children. Her tail goes 90 miles an hour anytime she sees one, whether they are ours or not. Bottom Left: Rocket with Giddy. The 3 dogs get along wonderfully together.Bottom Right: Rocket "Teething" lol We are all proud to have Rocket as a member of our family. It saddens me to know that when we picked her up, it was her final day at the pound and she would have been put to sleep, were it not for the efforts of Safe Haven Rottweiler Rescue. There are so many good animals that deserve a second chance at life. Please, Contact your local rescue today. They need your help!
Best wishes, Tami George, and Family
